Midlands born Sarah Vonthron-Laver is an Illustrator and toy designer who’s never happier than when her hands are covered in China Ink. She lives in North Somerset UK with her family who give her inspiration for the many things she draws. She has a number of books published in the UK and South Korea, and designs soft toys for a UK based toy company, many of which have gone on to be best sellers.
She has more recently rediscovered a love for producing fine art. Experimenting with different medias, she had a needle felt sculptural piece chosen to be displayed as part of an arts trail currently running at Beningbrough Hall NT. She took part in an exhibition about the topographies and landscapes of Bristol producing a series of lino cuts inspired by a hot air balloon flight she took, and also more recently painted a 5ft Hare for the Cotswolds AONB Hare trail, which lived at WWT Slimbridge for a Summer.
Vibrant colours play a very important part in her work, as she wishes to transmit the simple joy we can find in our natural environment. She does not aim to produce realistic representations of her subjects, but to capture the character in paint, ink or needle felt.
